“The Nevada Legislature on Wednesday passed Assembly Bill 431, which would immediately allow ex-felons to vote, including those convicted in another state. The bill also allows people convicted of a crime, but not imprisoned, to cast a ballot. The measure applies retroactively to previously released offenders. “

Taming wild horses brings change to Nevada inmates

“Nevada prison inmates are taming wild horses gathered from public lands across the West in a partnership program that is changing the prisoners, too. Hundreds of Nevada inmates have been taming the horses since 2000 as part of the program involving the federal Bureau of Land Management and the state Department of Corrections, the Las Vegas Sun reported Wednesday. The animals are given up for adoption after 120 days of training.“

Spotlight on Disenfranchisement in Nevada, as State Eases Rights Restoration

“Nevada is one of 12 states where people are still disenfranchised after completing a sentence. The upcoming reform (Assembly Bill 181) will keep Nevada on that list. While it will expand the groups who qualify for automatic rights restoration, anyone convicted of a higher-category felony and anyone with multiple convictions of whatever severity will remain disenfranchised even after serving a sentence. (AB 181 is thus weaker than Florida’s Amendment 4, which was adopted via referendum in November and does not contain the latter exception.)“
